Greetings and peace, Friends of ACTS!.
Praise God, 2019 has been a year of expansion for ACTS. Since we last shared about the medical mission trip in April, ACTS ministry has continually grown and expanded, and we are excited to share with you!
8/11-8/21 Pastor James led a short-term missions team of 6 to Togo and Ghana. 8/12 the team attended ACTS Togo graduation ceremony, the first event of this trip. To date, there are already 68 graduates (on top of 180 students who have completed short-term classes). The employment rate of graduates is 95% (65% find jobs and 30% find internships), helping them out in their current situation and bringing hope for their future.
ACTS has officially partnered with Cisco IT Academy and is offering courses in French that are Cisco IT Certified.
On another note, we are excited to announce that a second ACTS training center will start in Ghana. Google and Facebook have offices there, and the entire country has about 2 million wireless phones making it the leading technologically developed country in Africa. ACTS will work with local IT experts of Ghana, and are looking for a specialist to teach. The class will be held at the Ghana River of Life Christian Church classroom. We are currently purchasing computers and looking for a director for the school, and hope to start classes by the end of this year.
Togo’s River of Life Medical Clinic has completed its hardware and software setup. Currently, we are in the process of seeking qualified medical personnel, and hope to start running the clinic around the end of October. February 21, 2020 will be the grand opening. We believe this clinic will bring much needed relief for the health and wellness of the people.
In August, Pastor James led a youth conference in Ghana, which was attended by 600 youth from over 13 African countries. We experienced the work of the spirit in every service and saw the passion and hunger everyone had for God. The youth were greatly touched by God, and we saw God embrace each and every one of them in this atmosphere full of joy. We believe this next generation of youth will lead Africa into a glorious future.
We hosted our ACTS Appreciation Tea Party on September 7 at River of Life Christian Church. There were many decorations, especially the African cabasas, and many church members volunteered out of love to help out with the exquisite tea and snack preparation. It was a wonderful atmosphere and we invited many of our medical team partners to share with us: Rev. Wu of the Chiayi Lutheran Church Foundation, Dr. Wei-Ren Yao, the Principle of Chiayi Christian Hospital and the mission department’s Director, Zhong-Kwang Chen. They shared their methodology and testimonies of mission works through their medical influence in the marketplace. We had the opportunity to worship the Lord in African style, enjoyed some trivia about African culture, and shared the reports on the expansion of the ministry.
The Tea Party was a very joyful afternoon full of thanksgiving, and we pray that God will continue to lead ACTS toward more expansion and growth so that God’s love can flow to every corner of Africa.
Prayer Requests
- May God continue to lead River of Life Clinic as it begins its operations. Pray that all the medical work and management will go smoothly, and that God would give us supernatural wisdom to improve areas that are deficient in any way.
- Pray for God to raise up people to lead ACTS in Ghana, make wise decisions in classroom setup, hire, establish curriculum and classes, and for all the preparation involved to work out efficiently. Pray that classes would be able to start by the end of this year.
- The overall 2020 annual budget of ACTS is $160,000. Please pray that God will provide the necessary funds to ensure the operation and development of the 2 training centers and the clinic can continue smoothly and powerfully.
